I got the StarCat/CompuKitty GigaPet and I like it a lot more than the Pixie bUT

there is just something so counterintuitive about the sounds

why are there sound effects for the idle animations (which i don't need to react to) but not for when Star Cat does one of its tricks on its own (which is good to reward to avoid discipline going down)?

why does it not call out when it needs something if it's been too long since i last interacted with it? like, that's when it makes most sense to call out, does it not? if it's to save battery, i have a wild idea what sound effects we could get rid of to achieve that... <_<

i was under the false assumption that the Monster Carnival Uni had the monster aesthetics exclusive to the actual tamagotchi device

not that it's just a standard Uni with a DLC code included

well in that case i'm gonna spend 6 Euros instead of 60ish obviously

Got myself a new (old) non-Bandai vpet that I've been keeping a casual eye out for ever since I first read about it on tamenagerie.

According to the manual (which I put under the Read More) you can choose between cat, crab, butterfly, fish, dinosaur, dog, chicken and... chick? (which I assume to just be a generic non-chicken bird; it looked a bit like a dove in the menu)

I picked the kitty because ofc I did.

The pet comes with 3 feeding options (main course, snack and drink), two games (guess left or right, thow a dice and guess if it'll be a low or a high number), singing and dancing.

The latter two aren't interactive, you just press the button and it plays a little melody (I recognized Bingo, Jingle Bells and Beethoven's 9th so far, but there are a few more). When you sing with it, it's a little musical note and a smiley face on the screen, and when you dance it's a pair of feet moving to the melody.

I fed my kitty, played, sung and danced with her and also already cleaned her litter box once, and now she's just keeping me company, silently bouncing around on the screen~

That's all there is in the stats menu.

The happiness and hungry meters only show up when you go to the feeding menu or open one of the games.

It's pretty low maintenance so far and the kitty cat is kinda cute, too, imo.

Only downside: Just like the Smart Chick the animations are limited. When feeding it or playing with it the pet will just look like a little smiley face or Marutchi.

But at least when it pooped it looked like a kitten sitting on the screen, waiting for me to clean up.

I won't be able to give it a full run rn bc I'm set to leave on a business trip tomorrow and next week is gonna be pretty stressful, too, but I'm looking forward to the next time I have the chance to explore it some more :3

(At some point I'd also like to have a 9-in-1 Gyaoppi, 10-in-1 Gyaoppi clone or 8-in-1 Octo-Pet. Although my number one goal is still to get my hands on a Zappy Beamer like the one I had as a kid. I wish I knew where it ended up. Maybe I lost it on one of my many moves or it's in my mom's basement on the bottom of an old cardboard box :,D)

i know the Uni is out by now but this time i'll be strong!

this time i'll bid my time and wait for at least some of the (inevitable) special editions or whatever to be announced before i decide on which version i'll get!

btw, i did get a Smart when it came out but. i think i didn't even play a whole first generation on it yet? bc the touch screen sparked a lot of things in me, none of which were joy, so that’s why i never blogged about it here ^^’

i think the last color tamagotchi that actually got me engaged was the iDL. i ran my Mix/Meets/On ones for quite a while as well, but i didn't really do anything with them aside from breeding them and doing the bare minimum to keep them from complaining.

(my P's is a little broken so i don't dare to move it much, when i run it, leave alone take it with me anywhere, which has limited my motivation to run it much tbh)

my favs are still the older tamas with the monochromatic pixel displays and no backlight, bc i like that they don't turn off after a minute or two and it feels more like the tama is keeping you company and you can just glance over to see how it's doing even with the sound off

i think i'd really really like a tamagotchi with a wrist strap and lots of (necessarily not even all of) the other functions of modern day tamas but with the oldschool displays one day. not that i expect that to ever happen but alas. one can dream

Ok so when my Ocean died, I hatched a new egg. I didn’t rly intend to keep it, in fact I turned off the sound and out it aside to take put the batteries later or the next day.

I just completely ignored it, assuming it’ll be dead (again) anyway the next morning.

Only it wasn’t.

It was sick and had pooped and had never eaten or played a game in its life, but it was still alive somehow.

So. Uh. I guess we’re trying this again then ~~in slow motion bc there will be~~ ~~so much pausing~~~~... so very much pausing lol~~ :D’

Guess what I got! :D

I’ve wanted one of these for a while now but then went on a bit of a tama break and suddenly the prices on eBay went wild. BUT! I found a private seller who had kept this baby in excellent condition - not sure he touched it at all since originally buying it, except to remove the batteries - and he was willing to let go of it for a pretty reasonable price :3

People sure weren’t exaggerating with how needy the Ocean is, huh. The hearts empty fast and the time window you have to scare away the bear is tiny af.

So far I’ve always had it close to me and kept checking the stats every ten or so minutes, and whenever I couldn’t do this bc of a zoom meeting or a bathroom break or bc I was in the kitchen to make smth to eat I paused it.

The polar bear still got to it once and I think it got sick twice or so aside from that as well. I’m keeping snacks to a minimum, the Hungry hearts at 3-4 and the Happy hearts at 2-4. And the water clean, too, obviously.

And I’m proud to report that through all that hard work I managed to get it to the child stage.

If I didn’t have to pause it bc of an attention-consuming work project in the upcoming days it would’ve probably grown up later today but alas. Guess I’ll have to wait a little longer to see that happening.

Oh, btw, I’m not aiming for a particular adult on my first run. I really just want to make it to the adult stage at all XDD

So what's my final verdict on the Pix... It's nice. I think gameplay-wise I like it better than the On/Meets/M!x but I have to admit that I do somewhat miss the multigenerational aspect from previous (pre-M!x) tama models a bit. .... Although I guess it doesn't matter if the next generation is the biological kid of the previous now, does it.

Still annoyed at the touch buttons. Too unreliable. Not once have I gotten the medicine "shortcut" gesture to work or gotten anywhere in the time-sensitive games so far.

But overall... nice.

By the way what is UP on eBay these days?

The prices are ridiculous; i can't imagine a lot of these offers aren't just fakes that the seller doesn't even expect to get buyers for and only put at that price to overall bump up the prices, so what they actually want for their stuff will seem reasonable in comparison even though they are still way too expensive.

Maybe it's several sellers or accounts of the same seller even?

Idk, it's wild.

ok, after playing some more with it......... still not really used to the touch buttons. sometimes they recognize my fingers, sometimes they don’t. very annoying when playing any game where timing is of essence :/

apropos games!

idk if it’s a bug or a feature? but the best way to win the football game in the arcade is to do nothing. if you start it up and then ignore it, the ball will move on its own after a while and you can do other stuff while your tama is earning money XDD which i appreciate very much, given my aforementioned issue

anyway, for now i’m just chilling and seeing how the little one is gonna evolve on its own without me doing anything particular. but for the next gen (should i get to it before i’ll have to pause it for a while since some hectic work stuff is coming up) i’ll probably start to look for more info on how growth is determined on this tama. we’ll see.

There’s really not much to say about my first run of my On.

It’s the same as the Meets and the M!x after all. Cute - vERY cute, in fact - but. Not much else. The most exciting thing is literally making these elouai dolls for my update posts here lol

The newest addition to my little collection!

I never had a GigaPet as a kid (I think i babysat a friend’s GigaPet cat once tho?) so when I saw these Pixies popping up on the internet, I decided to get one because why not.

eBay prices are WILD these days tho, also shipping from the US is around 20-30ish dollars atm????? did this happen bc of/during the pandemic? anyway, thankfully I could order my Pixie from the official GigaPets website where both the vpet and the shipping was much much cheaper

I was pretty surprised by the wings being soft rubber. I hope they’ll hold up over the years. Also it was... a little... not weird, but... I’m not used to ordering a brand-new as in in-stock-and-still-getting-produced vpet with a classic black-and-white screen anymore. It’s so oldschool but also so new. Kinda funny.

Anyway, I’m still mostly in home office and from how I understand the manual I should be able to pause it by setting/pausing the time, should the need arise, so... let’s give it a try?

oooh! the sounds are so soft! .... there are a lot of sounds tho even when you don’t do anything..... this is gonna get annoying, won’t it :D’

Ok so here’s the good news: after a while of ignoring it, the sounds will stop

the bad news: the screen will also go blank, just like it does on color tamagotchis, probably to save batteries

which... kind of defeats the purpose imo?

bc one of the things about oldschool vpets i prefer over color tamas is that the oldschool ones are always visible on their screen. you prop them up next to you and they’ll just hang out with you and it just needs a quick glance to see if they need something or to just watch them do their cute little animations.

also it doesn’t make a noise when it needs something. it doesn’t when it poops and it doesn’t when one of his needs scores drops below 60 and the attention icon lights up (which you btw won’t see if it happens after the screen went blank!). so like. what is the point even.

i mean, sure, the sounds accompanying the animations are rly rly cute and varied, but imo the main purpose of having sound on a vpet in the first place is so you can hear when it needs something :/ hmpf

figuring out the potions takes a bit of trial and error which... idk, is a little stressful when you need to find out the luck potion recipe so you can make luck potion which you will need to get enough luck to, well, be able to brew potions XD’‘

i got by now and will make another post with all the recipes as soon as i figured out the rest as well!

Whatever, here are generation 12 - 15:

Ok, so I didn’t expect much from it since it’s just a Nano and I think if you don’t know/like NGE, you will be pretty bored by it, but as someone who grew up on this anime?

I love it!

It’s pretty easy to care for so I could take it to work with me to have some company in my (for plague reasons) nowadays pretty isolated “office” room.

Right now I’m trying to get through the first group (<4h cocoon time) to unlock the secret characters and so far got Israfel once and Sachiel twice.

My favorite feature are the little anime scenes tho!

I don’t wanna spoil all of them bc it’s just too much of a joy to see them for the first time yourself when you don’t know what to expect, but here are two of my favs:

(if you choose to press a button during one of these scenes you should watch the screen - there’s an additional shot from these scenes sometimes >;3)

Also: can recommend (re)watching NGE in general. Which I did this summer, old anime, End of Eva and the Rebuild movies who are out so far *shakes fist at Covid ~~yet again~~ for messing with the release of the final one* - it definitely helps getting all the references!

Overall I feel about the Meets like I feel about the M!x: Super cute but... idk, not really clicking with me ^^’ I might still give one of them a run next time I’m in home office tho, who knows, since I still need to spend some more time exploring the app - as long as it still exists :P

I’ve been wanting an Akai for literal ages!

And it’s So. Cute!

It takes a bit more Photoshop work to make the screen show up nicely in pictures and even IRL it’s not easy to see it in low lighting. But I already expected that.

What I didn’t expect is how incredibly fucking hard it is to earn gotchi points??!! WTF?? And the items still cost as much as on later versions where it’s easier to get points. x__X

Re: Evatchi - I haven’t had a chance to run it yet but. Well. It’s 2020. Corona. Home office. I’m sure the chance will present itself lol

I’m currently on Gen 12 on my 4.5 and Kai’s son Qarl turned into Crackertchi today. Which... not ideal, since I was aiming for Tougyutchi ^^’

But oh well.

Changed course and now I’m going for Hyottokotchi instead :3

I got Sebiretchi, Simasimatchi, Ponytchi and Ichigotchi

and judging by the photos I took when I tried them out, I guess I liked Ponytchi the best. Or at least the wig item that (iirc) came with her lol

So I got pretty far with my shell customization and chose a cute melon charm for the fake deco pierce, downloaded a ton of stuff from Mr. Blinky’s site (what even would the international tamagotchi community be without this guy???), played around a little...

And all was well.

Well, actually not rly, because my P’s electronic interior has a loose contact somewhere and it sometimes spontaneously resets itself if you move it too much. Or breathe into its general direction. Or look at it.

Which is super annoying so I haven’t played with it nearly as much as I would like to. Duh.

And here’s what’s been going on with my Mix since the last post:

Quick update without pictures:

The Akai I ordered still hasn’t been delivered tho and I assume something with my Packstation (something kinda like a PO Box) went wrong again and it’s been sent back upon failed delivery :/

But my P’s finally arrived and I also got myself a QPet

Latter is very low maintenance and aside from the tinny sound works quite well.
Another surprise was that it grew up again!
Like, most reviews I saw where like “it’s a shame you can pick the character you’ll get in advance and it grows up straight from baby to adult” … but I don’t think that’s how it works.

Because while I did choose a dark purple Makiko when I started it up and the baby character grew into her and she could eat chewing gum and drink alcohol (which seems like an adult thing to do), she grew up again this morning.
Into a character that looks like a toddler tho, but. Apparently there is more to the QPet evolution than just two stages! :D nice

And about the P’s:
It came with the English patch already installed and a lot of gotchi points in its virtual purse, which was nice.
Ofc the first thing I did was remove the face plate, not just to thoroughly clean everything but also to make myself a custom one ;P rn I’m still in the process of adding small pieces of holographic glitter tape to it to “fill” the jewels again, and I’m also undecided about how the “fake”/non-functional Deco Pierce I want to put on it (since it came without the little plastic heart) should look like.

So rn I’m running 3 vpets: the QPet, the P’s and my iDL (to be the P’s’ friend and vice versa)

Before that I gave my Sanrio Mix another try but.
Idk. It’s just not much of an interesting tama? I’m glad it grows up so fast, otherwise I would probably find it boring.
But anyway, whenever I DO run it, I plan to marry it to Gudetama in every 2nd generation, just to see how much of Gude’s genetics will take hold over time ;P

OH! And I recently ran Kimiko again, this time putting a bit more effort into research and it turns out last time I ran her I actually made it to the end of the game! Also I finally understood a lot of her needs better, I think, and therefor took better care of her than last time. Mostly. Aside from the 9 - 10 hours a day I didn’t care for her at all bc I had to work and couldn’t pause her. But her health never went below 3 bars and even though she was in a really bad mood a few times, most of the time her happy mood didn’t go below 2 or 3 either.
She still ran away from me 3 or 4 times, but always came back when I called her.

When I looked through the kind of m!x tamas that are out there and discovered there’s one with Sanrio chracters, I knew it had to be that one!

I’m so jealous of this adorable bedroom:

I forgot to take a photo of the teen stage (which was Mokokotchi), before I ended up with Mametchi a mere two days after hatching that first egg.
I initially wanted to pair him up with the girl from the Twin Stars, but Watawatatchi called dibs on him and he seemed to like her, too, so off they went to marry and procreate!

I was offered Kimewatatchi as name for the little one when he hatched and just ran with that.

Btw I rly like that the parents stick around for the baby stage and there are little family animations X3
But tamas nowadays grow up super fast, so it didn’t take long for my little boy to become an adult:

Love how he had a little pastel goth phase as a teen and still feels comfy and confident in dresses as an adult :3

My plan so far is to pair him up with Hello Kitty and according to the oracle and her entry in his friends list, I think I might succeed >:3

All in all I like the m!x so far, but I would like it a great deal more if it wasn’t near impossible to fill out the happy bar just playing “normally”.

In my first gen I only got it full by subjecting my boy to several tummy aches and holes in his teeth by force-feeding him snacks and now, in my 2nd gen, the happy bar is stuck on turquoise entirely and won’t fill up any further no matter what I do :/ I hope that’s either by design for some odd reason or resolves itself with the next gen!

What else, what else…

I’ve recently felt like starting up my TamaGo again? So I might do that soonish. And I ordered some figurines for it (which I never did back when they originally came out).

Also I won a used P’s on eBay, but that one still has to arrive. It lacks the little rubber heart thingie, so I ordered a bag of little plugs and might glue something cute onto them? We’ll see!

Either way, I’m looking forward to finally updating my collection photo in the start post, as soon as everything I ordered finally arrived :D

Ok so first of all I found out that apparently it’s normal for the happy bar to be stuck at turquoise!
At least while the tama is still a kid/teen. PHEW!

Anyway, here’s my 3rd generation boy in all his life stages:

As you can see, everything went according to ~~keikaku~~ plan.
It still does kinda. Mess. With my brain that you can just marry ur tama to Sanrio characters and they. Mate. And if ur tama is a boy that suggests the Sanrio chara has laid an egg. And here I was thinking Hello Kitty was a mammal.
Watch me freak out over this all over again when I go for the Twin Star girl as mate in either this or a future gen! :D

Oh, and my boy’s name, you ask?

(no idk how to pronounce that either lol)

SoooOOOO since Gudetama doesn’t have a gender assigned I decided to try and see if that means they can mate with any tama, regardless of gender and lo and behold:

Let’s see how it goes from there!

Switched out the faceplate for something new and shiny (which means the banner here isn’t up to date anymore but *shrug emoji*) and woke up Percy’s daughter, who soon evolved to an adorable little Belltchi

Idk, as shiny and fancy as color tamas are, there’s just something to displays that don’t turn off and allow you to keep an eye on the little one without having to press any button. It’s just. relaxing.

I think I’m gonna try and aim for a bad care character, maybe Kunoitchi who I never had outside the V5 so far :3

A girl! Finally!

Her name is Watatama☼tchi and She Is Adorable!

Aside from the flowers and whiskers she does look a lot like Belltchi, doesn’t she?

Btw I heard the upcoming Tamagotchi Meets will be able to connect with the m!x? Hope that’s true, so I can use the one I plan to get to unlock Mermaid Palace ^^

Anyway, here are all her life stages:

Over the last generations I always forgot to use the accessories on the adults before marrying them off, so this time I tried to do better. But none of them really suited her bc of the big bow on her head :/

She married Yotsubatchi and they had a little boy together and then I took out the batteries for now.

OH! And the saleslady at the park sold me what looked like a ninja scroll? Which I assume is an item you can otherwise only buy in Gozaru Village? So maybe, just MAYBE, she might also one day offer me the conch shell from Mermaid Palace? She refuses to be fooled by me messing around with the clock to see her more often tho, so it might take quite a while and A LOT of luck.

Back when I got my TamaGo I ttly missed the memo that I could connect it with my V5 so I decided to catch up on that

They went bowling and to karaoke and seem to have had fun :3

Btw I realize I never gave my TamaGo girl a name… hmmm… idk, Shelly?

Bummer enough that I took out the batteries for now (at least until the figurines I ordered will arrive) and instead I’m running my V4.5 again, so it can catch up to the V4 generation-wise and the family tree in the start post finally looks nice again :P
